Janie has changed a lot, which leads to a healthy and successful relationship with tea cake. Although Tea Cake is " is to low of a guy for her " she still likes him, she realizes it is not all about the money. What is more important is the way a person is, their character and attitude is what matters. Tea Cake and Janie later get married. Janie even starts working with Tea Cake so that they can spend all day together. Janie is living the life she wants. She is truly in love with tea Cake, and is truly happy with this relationship.
Janie has changed alot because when she was with Joe she was not treated right and when she met Tea Cake they started to get along really well with each other. When they decided to runoff and be together they got married and even though he is poor and low she doesn't care she just wants to be with him. When Tea Cake decides to go somewhere he decides to take Janie along because he really cares about her. When they decide to move because Tea Cake can start working they decide to get a house together. When time goes on Tea Cake starts missing work to go see Janie because he misses her so Janie decides to start working with him.
Janie had changed from being mistreated by her second husband Joe. She had been closed off from being herself. Then when she meet Tea cake she felt she could be herself an fact freely as she did. Tis had lead to the successful relationship with Tea Cake. He had treated her nice and she felt he was sweet. Even though she had obstacles of him being after her money and the big age difference. She had loved him. After time went by this had lead to Janie leaving the town and set off to go marry Tea Cake. - Alyssa Sotelo 6th period
Leonard A. Lafoe Janie changed characteristically changed by allowing herself to do what she wanted to do. When she was with both Logan and Jody, she dictated her life based on what society expected of her. The expectations of her late grandmother are especially strong. When she is with Tea Cake, she is free to do whatever she wants. Tea Cake recognizes that Janie is her own woman and doesn't expect anything of her. This leads to their successful relationship.
Janie had changed in the novel because she had a hard relationship with Joe. That made her into a strong independent young lady. To met someone nice can changed that whole thing, as she did for Tea Cake. Tea Cake is a friendly and poor but that doesn't stop Janie. Janie just wants someone to be with her and take care of her. Both of there lifes had been difficult and to have someone that doesn't expect any less or more of them is great. That is why, there relationship is good. They both want some one to be there with them throughout everything. - Bobbi Cordle 2nd period
After being in a bad relationship with Jody, Janie realizes she doesn't need a man with power and money to make her happy. Janie felt free and became very independent once Joe was gone. Being with Tea Cake, she actually feels as if someone values her as much as values herself. Janie didn't care if Tea Cake was poor, he does everything in his power to make her happy and she feels like she could be herself with him. She didn't feel like she had to force to love him, it just came naturally. The feelings towards each other are mutual and they respect one another. They both show that they cared about each other and have good communication. The relationship between Janie and Tea Cake is very healthy and a success because of the little things that weren't there in her last one.
Janie has chosen to love Tea Cake, she even gets married with him. In the beginning of chapter 12 there is a paragraph about how both of them do a lot of things together. How they go fishing, to the movies and and a hole bunch of stuff. Janie truelly loves Tea Cake to the point were they get married. Janie chooses to settle down with someone she truelly cherishes. At one point she even gets jealous when this girl is talking to Tea Cake showing that she truelly cares about him
Throughout these chapters Janie has changed into a whole different woman. She is happier, she expresses a sense of freedom, and she loves Tea Cake unconditionally. The relationship they have is successful because Tea Cake is like the man she has always wanted. She is not held back by the things she wants to do and Tea Cake looks after her with care. Unlike her other husband that past away, she would do anything for Tea Cake because she actually loves him. Tea Cake supports her. For example, Tea Cake gambles to return her 200 dollars and he earns extra and tells her how he should be the only one supporting her with his money. He risked his life for her by getting her money back and showing how determined he was. The relationship that Tea Cake and Janie has is healthy and Janie seems to be happy to be with a man that cares for her.
During Jody's and Janie's marriage, Janie was imprisoned by Jody's comforts, but when he passed away Janie felt and became free and independent again. She shows how free she became in chapter 14 when Tea Cake shows her how to shoot a gun, she learns quickly and eventually becomes a better shooter than Tea Cake, something she would have never done with Jody. In chapter 14 the narrator says, "The men held big arguments here like they used to do on the store porch. Only here, she could listen and laugh and even talk some herself if she wanted to."(pg.134). This quote shows how Janie was never able to communicate with the others in Eatonville because Jody felt that she was too good for them, but with Tea Cake in the Everglades she interacted with the others and even worked in the field with Tea Cake. Janie now feels that she is her own women and Tea Cake supports that which makes their relationship successful.
Within these few chapters, Janie has changed as a woman and as a person in a relationship. These changes allowed for her relationship with tea Cake to be a success. Janie used to be the type of woman that did what ever you told her with no complaints. Now she is more confident and independent. When she feels something is not right she speaks her mind about. For example, when she though Tea Cake was fooling around with Nunkie. She did not hold those thoughts in, she went right to him and confronted him about it. Janie no longer takes disrespect and no longer lets people in her relationship. When Pheoby questioned her about running off, Janie did not care. She was now starting to do things that made her happy. These positive changes in Janie's character led to a successful relationship and marriage with Tea Cake.
Jody's death gived independence in Janie's life. She was free to chosse whatever she wanted. Now she was happy without having Jody telling her what to do. Tea Cake made her feel loved and important. He cared for her and he was always there for her. For once Janie was independent on doing whatever she wanted, and Tea Cake was always there for her giving her support in every step in the way making their marriage work. Ailyn Flores
Janie has changed because she has matured she doesn't care anymore of what the town thinks of her and Tea Cake. Like for instance their age gap and where their social class stands. After being with Tea Cake for awhile she learns to go for what she wants. Tea Cake shows her love and makes her happy and this makes her show her emotions more now. When she was with Jody she says that all he ever did was make her act high class and she wasn't really herself. Now that she's with Tea Cup she lives her life the way she wants to.
Janie has grown a lot as a person in the few chapters throughout the story. Her misfortunes have helped her grow as person and taught her to see beyond the physical flaws and always pursue what makes her happy, and what she has been looking for since the beginning of the story-- love. When Tea Cake comes into her life, he fills a gap in her heart she didn't realize she had. Her misfortunes made its easier for her to realize that she had something good going with him, and she wasn't going to let that get away. She was the apple of his eye, and she knew she was happy with him. That's why it was so easy for them to have a successful relationship, because she finally experienced the feeling of love she longed for, and for once, it was strong, mutual feeling.
Janie has change from been a person who had to hide her emotions when been married to Jody. After Jody's death Janie is able to express her feelings not having to worry about what Jody might think. Which later in the novel leads to allowing Janie to meet a new man that later would become her husband. As more time she spend with Tea Cake she soon realised she could show her emotions. Which later in the novel leads to a sucessful relationship with her new husband known as Tea Cake. Elizabeth Rodriguez
Throughout chapters 11-15, Janie had changed substantially in order to jumpstart a working relationship with Tea Cake. Janie had spent a great amount of her life following her grandmother's ambitions for Janie; "Git up on uh high chair and sit dere." (pg. 114) This high chair life style she had experienced with Joe Starks had to be given up in order to spend time with Tea Cake. Janie happily gave it up however, she went as far as learning how to hunt, living in the mucks, and working in the bean fields all along side "her boy" Tea Cake. This changed in lifestyle was fundamental to a successful relationship with Tea Cake, and proved to be far more satisfying to Janie, than her "high chair life". -Lorenzo Lambert --- I'm out.
Trough her past marriages, Janie has more expirience on how marriage should really be. She knows how to be treated had to speak her mind and Tea Cake treats her like she want to. With him Janie feels respected and he dosn't even care about her age. Tea Cake is loyal to her and gives her more liberties unlike her past marriage. Although many people are against the marriage, Janie is madly in love with him and has been more successfully than the previous one. -Julia Martinez
Janie has realized a lot from her last relationships. She hasn't really had a good relationship by different ways. She has experienced different ways of relationship. She didn't have the real meaning of love. By her not being treated like it should be. She now meets Tea Cake where its a more love relationship how it should truly be. She learns how a guy should treat her. She love Tea Cake by how he is and their loyal relationship that they have. And she proves everyone how she loves him. And throughout the reading you can see how they enjoy their relationship.
Since Joe passed away, Janie has lived alone without anyone demanding her around and telling her what do to. She is happier and opens up more. With Tea Cake she is very outgoing and not shy. She speaks whatever is on her mind, which is very important for a relationship to work out and he actually listens to her and cares about her opinion. Janie is not letting anyone take control of her anymore and she is open and honest about everything that bothers her. She has become a stronger person because of her failed past marriages and has learned from the mistakes she and her partner have made. -Dominique Briddell
There's no question at all about the function of the marriage between Tea Cake and Janie over her past marriages. Despite the grief of her past husband Jody, she has changed to be more happy even if it means risking the gossip of the public. She even goes as far as selling the store and marrying him commenting "Cause Tea Cake ain't no Jody Starks." Tea Cake has brought Janie merriment and she stops at nothing to make sure it continues no matter what anyone says. In conclusion, Janie has became independent ever since the death of Jody saying she would have the rest of her life to do as she pleased in chapter 9. Her relationship with Tea Cake was unexpected but she falls for him anyway in contrast to her past relationships because to her age isn't anything but a number.
Janie has changed because she figures out what real love is. She learns how it feels to be treated with respect and dignity. And because she felt neglected is her last marriage. Now being with Tea Cake she learns how it feels to be treated like a real lady. Therefore she becomes a much happier and open person.
Janie's growth over time throughout the novel has changed dramatically. She has been in constant search for love since the beginning of the novel, and she won't stop until she finds it. She has also tries to maintain a mindset in which she doesn't allow bad things to have negative effects in her life. When Janie comes across Tea Cake he immediately begins to have an important role in her life. Janie soon begins to have a feeling that she has never experienced, which is love. Both of them have rarely felt this emotion, this is why it is easier for them to maintain a healthy and successful relationship in the fore seeing future.
Jaine changes throughout the novel after what happen with joe. After leaving joe, jaine became more independent. This help with the relationship of tea cake. Tea cake treated jaine with respect and they both got along. Even though tea cake was in low class jaine still loved him and always will. And seeing how their relationship is going I can see that jaine will soon know the meaing of love.
Janie had rough relationships with both Jody and Logan, and learned from her mistakes. She meets Tea Cake, and he is much more appreciative of her than either of the other two ever did. The respect and appreciation leads to a more healthy relationship than what she had with either Jody or Logan. With Logan, Janie never loved him, and with Jody, she did love him at first, but years of unhappy marriage changed things. I believe that her marriage to Tea Cake will be very happy and successful.
Janie has changed a lot, which leads to a healthy and successful relationship with tea cake. Although Tea Cake is," to low of a guy for her " she still likes him, she realizes it is not all about the money but what is more important is the way a person is, their character and attitude is what matters. Janie even starts working with Tea Cake so that they can spend all day together. Janie is living the life she wants. She is truly in love with tea Cake, and is truly happy with this relationship.
Janie changed, which changed her relationship with tea cake into a healthy and successful relationship. When Janie was with joe she didn't get the respect she needed and didn't get treated the proper way. When Janie met tea cake she was comfortable around him, she could be herself when she was with him. Tea cake treated Janie with a lot of respect and the opposite way joe had treated her. Time went by and it lead Janie to leave town and went to marry tea cake. Samantha Garcia 3rd
Since Janie has change in a way that brings her happiness and makes her independent, it let's her have a good relationship with Tea Cake. By her having experience on how marriage and love suppose to be. The way Tea Cake treats her, how he let's her speak what's on her mind and what bothers her is something janie likes. He actually cares for janie just like she does to him. This is a feeling Janie hasn't felt because of her other marriages she was limited to do things, and with Tea Cake she isn't.
Ever since meeting Tea Cake, Janie has changed in a positive way. She was no longer mistreated and was happier. In a way tea cake made her feel younger because she began to wear colored dresses and did her hair in different ways. she also began to do things she normally wouldn't do such as hunting, being able to work and hunt with Tea Cake helped the develop a strong honest relationship with each other.
Janie changed because she always tried to be what she wasn't. Meaning she tried to be what other wanted her to be, in example her grandmother wanted her to stay on a high chair. Then she met Tea Cake and she got off that high chair. Tea Cake wasn't the kind of mind she had in mind, but he treated her right by listening to her treated her like a proper lady should be treated. She became happy with him, and made her a stronger person. Making the relationship with Tea Cake work.
Janie has changed from that little girl who will believe just about anything she is told like when her grandmother told her that people who get married are always in love. Now she is more independent and willing to try to think for her self. She found out what she wanted in a man by thinking for her self. what she wanted wasn't power or money but someone who treated her right. she found this in Tea Cake who was willing to just be with her and talk to her and have fun with her. this lead to a strong and working relationship that could overcome hardships without to much hurt.
Janie has changed a lot she is now understanding that there is much more better things than money she is showing that she is now mature. Even though Tea Cake doesn't have a lot to offer, as in materialistic or money only his love, thoughts, and time she takes that with great appreciation and takes the time to love him back. Tea Cake was the total opposite man of Janie's ex because he actually dedicated time to her, they even started to work together so that they could spend more time as a couple. In other words Tea Cake wasn't the richest or the best looking man in Janie's eyes but that didn't seem to matter anymore to her she grew strong and mature with the relationship Tea Cake gave to her, she finally was happy and knew what she wanted because she was able to think and choose for herself. -Laura Mena 5th period
Though out the novel Janie learned how to be respected as a woman in a relationship. In her past marriages she felt neglected and was naive to love. Tea Cake treats her with respect and is loyal to her. This feeling makes Janie feel young and care free about life. Janie's young love and Tea Cake's respect for her is what makes the relationship work.
As soon as Judy died, Janie started to wear her hair down again but she didn't change anything in the shop. Once she met Tea Cake she started to build confidence and learn to love herself. She wore blue for Tea Cake because he said it looked best on her. Janie was done mourning and was genuinely happy with Tea Cake. She no longer cared what people thought of her and was able to not allow her past relationships affect the relationship she has with Tea Cake. Janie is supportive of all of Tea Cakes decisions and actions. Tea Cake allows Janie to make her own decisions and also supports them as well. This relationship is successful because there is good communication
Janie's attitude and perspective towards love and life has changed in a positive way since the moment she met Tea Cake. She found herself making her own decisions in life other than always being told what to do; for example living her life in that high chair with her marriage with Joe Starks the way Nana wanted her to live. "Ah done lived Grandma's way, now Ah means tuh live mine." Janie was ready to start living for herslef. Tea Cake had nothing but love to offer, but Janie realized that she never wanted the power or the money, all Janie ever wanted is to feel loved. As much as the town would go talking bad about her relationship with Tea Cake, she no longer 'keered' what people had to say, because Janie finally in her forties felt loved, wanted and most importantly happy with Tea Cake.
Janie has had to keep her heart hard to avoid getting hurt. She had to take care of herself sometimes. She had to be mature. When Tea Cake came around, she kept her mature behavior: she always thought Tea Cake had a younger girl around and kept her on the side especially since she's older than him. Tea Cake allowed Janie to soften her heart. He let her have fun (taught her to play checkers) and laughed with her. This is why they had such a successful relationship.
Ever since the death of her husband, Jody Starks, she has been free from his grasp and was able to do the things she wished. Her time being married with Jody has taught her a few things from this experience. She has learned to be aware and cautious of men and their qualities so she can choose a good and loving husband, not a man like Jody. When she first met Tea Cake, she was alert with him to make sure he wasn't trying to be with her just because of her money and for status, even though he was being very kind and generous with her. At first she didn't want to even think about marriage because of her previous marriage with Jody. She enjoyed the freedom. The reason Tea Cake and she have a successful relationship is because, "she decided to treat him so cold," (pg 100) which lead her to find out very well Tea Cake's personality and know he was going to be a good husband with good values unlike the others. -Adan Rivas
After Joe's death, Janie has become a stronger woman and also throughout the chapters she has change her maturity and the way of thinking. Now she is loving her freedom and started to learn how to handle the store and her life as a widow. When Janie met Tea Cake, she started to feel important like she had never felt before when she was with Joe. Tea Cake started to show her everything that she couldn't learn such as fishing, playing chess and going to places. Also Tea Cake is showing Janie that he doesn't care about the age difference the only thing he cares is her to be happy. This shows that the maturity of Janie will make this relationship be a successful and Tea Cake letting her do whatever she wanted to do when she was with Joe. Also Tea Cake shows that he doesn't care much about the money tht she has and he is wasting his money on her such as renting a car and buying her food. Janie now knows what is real love and the feeling of being important to someone. -Daniela Galindo
Janie, since Joe Stark's death, has developed a feeling of freedom. She feels now that Joe is not there to isolate her from her friends and the public that she can let any feelings and people come into her life. It was a beautiful feeling for Janie. The local townspeople thought Janie was not mourning her husbands death enough-leading them to think that Tea Cake was going to make her fall in love with him and then take all of her money-just like a woman before Janie. Janie doesn't pay attention to her friends. She probably can't even picture Tea Cake robbing her of her money because she is blinded by the promises he has made to her and all the fun they are going to have together. She trusts this feeling and decides to leave with Tea Cake. So her changes and ability to just let her self fall in love with a man 12 years younger than her led to this successful relationship. It all started when Joe Stark died. People were expecting her to cry her heart out, but instead she kept quiet because of the way he treated her and things he said to her before he died. She didn't want to dwell on these things, so with little hesitation she left with Tea Cake. -Chris Gomez, 5th Pd
Explain how Janie has changed, and how this leads to a successful relationship with Tea Cake. Since the death of Joe, Janie has changed tremendously, allowing for her growth as a person. While married to Joe, Janie was oppressed and seen simply as a trophy wife, not as an individual. After his death Janie was able to express and truly accept herself and Tea Cake played a large role in this. Janie began to venture out and do things that she would never imagine herself doing in the past. Since Tea Cake was supportive and with her through all of her changes, he means a lot to Janie and she knows that he is the exact opposite of what she has had in the past. Janie has stepped down from her high horse and assimilated herself into Tea Cake's lifestyle, making their bond so much stronger.
Janie went from doing what others wanted, to doing what she wanted. In order for her to be happy she chose to not care what other people thought of her or her actions. By doing this she was able to actually fall in love with Teacake. She was no longer trapped or imprisoned emotionally. Janie and Teacake's marriage was abnormal to and frowned upon by people, and they did things not normal to society (like fishing, and hunting together), but they didn't care. Janie's new sense of "I will do what makes me happy" led to her successful relationship with Teacake. -Dominique Lopez
Janie's change was noticed towards the end of her relationship with Jody. She used to take the constant criticism but then realized she did not have to. What does she care about what other people think. She also started to think hard about a man before getting to know him better. She met Tea Cake and thought that he was after her money but after spending time with him she decided that he was not like the other men who came to her.
Janie has changed ever since her husband passed away, by becoming more independent and not being told how she should be or what people expected her to be like. The success in Janie's and Tea Cake's relationship is due to Tea Cake treating her right inviting her to places shes never "accustomed" to be in, Tea cake also teaches janie how to drive, tea cake also wants to provide for her woman for example on chapter 13 on page 128 Tea cake implies "Put dat two hundred back wid de rest, Janie. Mah dice. Ah no need no assistance tuh help me feed mah woman. From now on, you gointuh eat whutever mah money can buy yuh and wear de same. When ah ain't got nothin' you dont git nothin." This shows how Tea cakes wants to provide for her without using her own money for their needs. Jaime Balderrama
Janie had changed tramendously after her past relationships. When Janie was married to Joe, Joe made her feel unloved and always abused her whether it was emotionally or physically. This made Janie seem like she could not think for her self, always listening to Joe as if she was his slave rather than his wife. After sometime after Joe's death, Janie and Tea Cake had started a friendship. when she noticed that he was trying to be with her, she gave him the cold shoulder because people told her he was just after her money, which shows how she is still unable to think for her self. But then she notices that Tea Cake is not there for the money but he is there because he want to be with her. He shows the caring, loving support of how a husband should do. She then realizes that she is her own woman and she can do what makes her happy. Tea Cake would always be at her house just chatting with her which she liked. Good communication, respect, and trust is was led to the succesful relationship she had with Tea Cake, which over all allows her to let go of the past and is now the master of her own life. -Elias Gutierrez 5th period
Janie has changed the way she is and that leads her to have a healthy relationship with Tea Cake. When Janie was married with Joe, Janie was not respected at all, but when she started seeing Tea Cake, they both got on really well and Tea Cake respected Janie. With Tea Cake treating Janie right, Janie felt like she could be herself and not worry. Janie allowed herself to do whatever and everything that she wanted to do. With the changes I character that Janie had, she allowed herself and Tea Cake a healthy relationship.
All throughout chapter 12, we see how much Janie has truly changed and matured since her relationship with Jody. She has become more independent and self reliant which helps her achieve a healthy relationship with Tea Cake. Tea Cake is the perfect guy for Janie, he treats her right, he respects her & he also spoils her unlike her other husband. By doing what she wanted to do & not obeying her Nanny's orders Janie is able to follow her heart and actually acquire feelings for Tea Cake. The reason that their relationship is so successful is because Janie has learned Tea Cakes true personality & their relationship is fun and honest.
Janie makes a drastic character change these last couple of chapters. she has been shown to go with men of a high stature, economically, and though shes found a marriage with these men she has not found love. when her husband dies, she sparks an interest with a indigent man named Tea Cake. He takes her out on dates and treats her like a lady. She is being treated how she always wanted to be and finally finds herself to be truly in love for the first time in her life.
Well for starters and possibly the biggest change we see in Janie is that she's actually happy with Tea Cake. In the relationship she has with Tea Cake she keeps her, despretly wanted, independence while loving this man, much different from her bleak marriage with Jody. Although happiness is a key change we see in Janie it's not the only change we see, another change we see in her is the fact that she is more calm about the rest of her life. She is just so sucked in with love. A good a example of showing how Janie truely loves Tea Cake is how obedient she is to him, almost never asking questions about the things Tea Cake tells her to do. These changes we see in Janie lead to a great start of a new relationship.
Janie has realized her errors and has become a better woman. She recognizes that money is not a priority in love. Janie also gives Tea Cake a chance knowing he is in lower class. Janie shows to love her relationship with Tea Cake and starts working with him to spend more time together. Janie also does what Tea Cake asks for. These changes lead to a better relationship with Tea Cake.
Janie has changed a lot since what happened with Joe. When she moved on, she became more independent. Tea Cake treated Janie with respect and they really got along. Tea Cake was a part of the low class, but this didn't change a thing about how Janie felt about him. She loved him. This relationship is showing Janie what love really is.
Janie changes in many ways after Joe dies, for example she now doesn't hide her hair. Janie also starts changing more when Tea Cake talks to her and then marries her. Also Janie now is not afraid of doing what she wants instead of being dragged down by Joe all the time, for example Tea Cake teaches her how to shoot a gun and takes her to do crazy stuff like going to the muck. This leads to a successful marriage with Tea Cake because she stops caring about money and just wants to spending time with Tea Cake. Another reason their marriage is successful is because Tea Cake lets Janie do what she wants and actually spends time with her unlike Joe or Logan.
After the death of Joe, Janie has changed dramatically. Before she was just someone Joe can show around in other words a trophy wife. Janie wasn't able to make her own decisions and didn't get respect from Joe. Unlike Joe, Tea Cake respects Janie and shows her that love doesn't need money to exist. In the relationship with Tea Cake, Janie is able to follow her heart and have a healthy relationship with Tea Cake.
Janie has changed in a way that she got independent since she had to deal with Joe a guy she thought was something else but ended up being a jerk to her and not really caring for her. The only thing Joe had was money but for Janie that's not what she wanted. She wanted to feel love and when Tea Cake comes along and he is super nice Janie runs off with him because she felt love with him. Even though he was poor Janie didn't care and when Tea Cake would miss Janie, he would skip work to be with her, showing that he was everything that was missing with Joes relationship.
Not only did Janie change through these chapters but mainly from the beginning and did what she wanted .She chose to not give people attention what they think of her and what she does, in effect Janie realizes she has been happier. This has caused and will continue doing better for her because she actually fell in love with Teacake. With teacake the feeling was endless and as she was free of judgement and orders. Janie and Teacake's marriage was different and unusual but they didn't care and that's what made them grew closer.Teacake is not of upper class but respects and cares for Janie ,with that she gives him a chance and realizes it doesn't really matter from where he comes from. Janie's has now grown into the new sense of being in love and what is good for her because she does deserve it.
Janie changes in a lot of ways after Joe dies. She starts to act more freely, running the store as she wants, letting her hair down, and conversing with the folks on the porch. When Tea Cake comes she can freely converse with him as much as she wants and not be in fear of Joe coming down and commanding her to stop talking to a customer. The first day, they hit it off and she even learns to play Chess somewhat, something Joe would have never let her done before. They run off together and Janie has a wonderful time doing things Joe would have never let her done in a million years. She even begins to work with Tea Cake after a while, because he kept skipping work to see her; she felt they could see each other all the time if they were always together. Janie has finally found love, one that will stay, unlike Joe who changed completely overnight. She's finally found what she's been looking for.
After the death of Joe, Janie has transformed into an independent and happy women when recognizing that she has truly found love with Tea Cake and expressing her newfound freedom. To Janie Tea Cake is the man of her dreams. She has been dreaming for real love all her life and she finds this with him. Janie also matures and realizes that with Joe’s materialistic way of life his money bought her affection. She understood why she and Joe were so unhappy. With Tea Cake, their relationship is focused only on their love for one another and not the materialistic items in life. Through Tea Cake, Janie has found her voice and he truly does complement her by bringing out her strength, while expressing their endless love towards each other.
Jaine has changed by being more cautious and independent. She's more independent because she doesn't have to do what Joe tells her anymore. Now that Jaine has money she is more cautious with the guys that try to display their love for her just for her money. When she meets Tea Cake at first she was worried that he just wanted her money, but she realizes they love each other and gets married. Jaine moves to the Everglades with Tea Cake. Jaine cooks for Tea Cake while he is in the field. She spends any time she has with Tea Cakes even helping him in the fields, which she doesn't care because their together. Going through 2 previous bad marriages Jaine finally finds Tea Cake who loves her and treats her right.
Since Joe's passing, Janie has changed the way she views herself and how she carries herself to others. In the beginning of the book, Janie was a miserable, confused young girl, who didn't know the difference between a crush and love. Young Janie didn't have the life experiences that she has now; to help guide her to think for herself. When she finally decided to live her life and be happy, that is when she stopped listening to whatever anyone else thinks. Janie's views where changed in a positive way because of Tea Cake. He made her realize she was worth something and made her experience what love is truly. Tea Cake never pressured her to marry him, didn't criticize her like Joe, and let her acquire feelings for him slowly through a friendship. Ironically she ended up falling in love with Tea Cake, who is the complete opposite of what her grandmother wanted for her.Tea Cake had no money to offer, wasn't all fancy and educated, but made the biggest change in Janie by bringing out the best of her; letting her become independent. Naturally girls and women alike feel obligated to act a certain way that society deems "acceptable." With this Tea Cake fellow she feels like herself. Like a person, and that she can do whatever she wants, when she wants, and how she wants, all because Tea Cake doesnt expect anything of her except for her. This strengthened the unity between Janie and Tea Cake which was very different from being with Logan and Jody who made her "watch herself" for the things she did and how she did them.
There's no better way to put it than that. Tea Cake brings out the real Janie, the one that's contained a the box of society, something that would breathe down her neck telling her what to do, and Tea Cake sets her free.
Within Janie's and Tea Cakes relationship, Janie feels much more independent and free to be herself. She doesn't feel restrained, or required to be someone else. She had come to the conclusion that living the way her grandmother wanted her to live was the past, and she now wanted to live the love life, fairy tale she chose to live. She fell in love with Tea Cake and even trusted him, even after all the rumors and lies people were telling her just so she would stay by herself as a widowed woman. (pg.114) But as time passed and the more she spend with him and learned more about him ,she realized that she was able to let herself love him in a way that she never had before, even if there was an age gap and he was poor. Because she is more liberal and voices her thoughts more, even in a joking manner towards him because that is how much she feels comfortable around Tea Cake. For example, when Janie says, " Looka heah, Tea Cake, if you ever go off from me and have a good time lak dat and then come back heah tellin' me how nice Ah is, Ah specks tuh kill yuh dead. You heah me?" Janie here seems to be able to not only play around with Tea Cake, from her previous marriages with Logan and Jody, she never would have felt this comfortable with either one to tell them this, because she didn't entirely worry over them or have feelings for them that were pure to her.

In chapter 14 the narrator says, "The men held big arguments here like they used to do on the store porch. Only here, she could listen and laugh and even talk some herself if she wanted to."(pg.134).

ReplyDeleteJanie has changed because she figures out what real love is. She learns how it feels to be treated with respect and dignity. And because she felt neglected is her last marriage. Now being with Tea Cake she learns how it feels to be treated like a real lady. Therefore she becomes a much happier and open person.
ReplyDeleteJanie's growth over time throughout the novel has changed dramatically.

ReplyDeleteJanie had rough relationships with both Jody and Logan, and learned from her mistakes.

ReplyDelete-Alondra Rodriguez
Ever since meeting Tea Cake, Janie has changed in a positive way. She was no longer mistreated and was happier. In a way tea cake made her feel younger because she began to wear colored dresses and did her hair in different ways. she also began to do things she normally wouldn't do such as hunting, being able to work and hunt with Tea Cake helped the develop a strong honest relationship with each other.
ReplyDeleteJanie changed because she always tried to be what she wasn't.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed from that little girl who will believe just about anything she is told like when her grandmother told her that people who get married are always in love.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed a lot she is now understanding that there is much more better things than money she is showing that she is now mature.

ReplyDeleteAs soon as Judy died, Janie started to wear her hair down again but she didn't change anything in the shop.
ReplyDeleteJanie's attitude and perspective towards love and life has changed in a positive way since the moment she met Tea Cake.
ReplyDeleteJanie has had to keep her heart hard to avoid getting hurt. She had to take care of herself sometimes. She had to be mature. When Tea Cake came around, she kept her mature behavior: she always thought Tea Cake had a younger girl around and kept her on the side especially since she's older than him.
ReplyDeleteTea Cake allowed Janie to soften her heart.

Explain how Janie has changed, and how this leads to a successful relationship with Tea Cake.
ReplyDeleteSince the death of Joe, Janie has changed tremendously, allowing for her growth as a person.
ReplyDelete-Dominique Lopez
Janie's change was noticed towards the end of her relationship with Jody. She used to take the constant criticism but then realized she did not have to. What does she care about what other people think. She also started to think hard about a man before getting to know him better. She met Tea Cake and thought that he was after her money but after spending time with him she decided that he was not like the other men who came to her.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed ever since her husband passed away, by becoming more independent and not being told how she should be or what people expected her to be like. When ah ain't got nothin' you dont git nothin."
ReplyDeleteThis shows how Tea cakes wants to provide for her without using her own money for their needs.

ReplyDeleteJanie makes a drastic character change these last couple of chapters. she has been shown to go with men of a high stature, economically, and though shes found a marriage with these men she has not found love. when her husband dies, she sparks an interest with a indigent man named Tea Cake. He takes her out on dates and treats her like a lady. She is being treated how she always wanted to be and finally finds herself to be truly in love for the first time in her life.
ReplyDeleteWell for starters and possibly the biggest change we see in Janie is that she's actually happy with Tea Cake.
ReplyDeleteJanie has realized her errors and has become a better woman.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed a lot since what happened with Joe. When she moved on, she became more independent. Tea Cake treated Janie with respect and they really got along. Tea Cake was a part of the low class, but this didn't change a thing about how Janie felt about him. She loved him. This relationship is showing Janie what love really is.
ReplyDeleteJanie changes in many ways after Joe dies, for example she now doesn't hide her hair.
ReplyDeleteAfter the death of Joe, Janie has changed dramatically.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed in a way that she got independent since she had to deal with Joe a guy she thought was something else but ended up being a jerk to her and not really caring for her.
ReplyDeleteNot only did Janie change through these chapters but mainly from the beginning and did what she wanted .She chose to not give people attention what they think of her and what she does, in effect Janie realizes she has been happier.
ReplyDeleteJanie changes in a lot of ways after Joe dies.

Janie and Tea Cake's marriage is successful because Janie followed her heart and learned to love herself before she gave a chance to love someone else.

ReplyDelete-Jordan Ocampo
There's no better way to put it than that. Tea Cake brings out the real Janie, the one that's contained a the box of society, something that would breathe down her neck telling her what to do, and Tea Cake sets her free.
DeleteWithin Janie's and Tea Cakes relationship, Janie feels much more independent and free to be herself. She doesn't feel restrained, or required to be someone else. She doesn't need to live up to anyone expectations, like with her grandmother, Logan, and Jody. Tea Cake helps Janie feel like she's in a real relationship. Janie can actually know how love feels within her relationship with Tea Cake.

Throughout the couple of chapters Janie has changed into a completely different woman. After being in a bad relationship with Jody, she realizes a man that doesn't have that much power or money makes her happy. Tea Cake respects Janie and treats her right, he values her and does what he cans to makes her happy. He doesn't disrespect and criticize her as Joe did. She didn't feel that she was forced into the relationship it just happened naturally. She actually loves Tea Cake, their feelings are mutual for each other.

The change that comes upon Janie was the turning point of her problems you can say. She becomes a lot more independent and fearless from being told what to do. Her marriage with Tea Cake brings out the better side in Janie and gives her the experience to do things in life with a real husband that actually fulfills the satisfaction she needs. Having the relationship with Tea Cake made Janie realize she had the ability to know what loving someone for who they were felt like. Both of Janie's and Tea Cakes intentions are what lead their relationship to be successful, especially the way Tea Cake expresses how he care, making Janie his first priority and never brought upon showed selfish action.
ReplyDeleteJanie realized she wanted to be her own person, and she no longer would live to please others. She begins spending her evenings with Tea Cake after she closes up shop and enjoys herself, truly, because she's "allowed" to have fun and feel comfortable with him, unlike in her past relationships. Later when Pheoby confronts her about doubts on Tea Cake, Janie speaks with confidence and reassures Pheoby that she knows what she's doing and she's happy. Although Janie later has her own doubts about Tea Cake, he always put them to rest. Janie's transformation into a more confident, independent-minded woman is what makes her relationship with Tea Cake successful because she's finally understood herself before becoming completely invested into another person.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed mentally. She doesn't care about her age or what people have to say about her. Her relationship with Tea Cake has been succesful by her not putting much thought into him being younger. She does has some worries that he only wants her for money, but she realizes and is convinced that he doesn't. Janie threw out these chapters becomes more confident, and auto suficent.

Janie matured from a gullible girl who believes everything she is told. She grew into someone who could think for herself more independent. She also found what she wanted from a man which wasn't fancy expensive things but a true and meaningful relationship. This helped make a successful relationship with tea cake that could overcome any obstacle.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed time by time and by every experience shes had.For example joes is passing and she tries to go talk to him and tell him everything but then he treated her like she was nothing and she went back at it she was fed up with joes humiliation. In each relationship she was happy in a way because she had everything she wanted but in the other part of her she wasn't because the relationships before tea cake they never actually gave her a place as their wife, they always looked at her as something below them. As Tea cake and Janie started with the friendship she noticed and realized she had never felt so good about herself and felt the feelings tea caske made her feel he brought the best out of her and showed her what true love really was no matter if he didn't have the moiney or education because he had everything she wanted.

DeleteBefore, Janie was more reserved and timid. She really didn't voice her opinion much even when she wasn't happy. After her marriage ended with the Mayor, because of his death, she changed and fell in love with Tea Cake. That's when she really because to "live". She began to do things that women of her time dreamed of doing like fishing and shooting with Tea Cake. Her relationship with Tea Cake was free and easy-going.
ReplyDeleteFrom the moment of Jody's last breath, Janie felt a new sense of freedom. As soon as the funeral was over, she burned her hair kerchiefs and let her hair loose. But her transformation was so much more than that. She was at peace with herself. Janie started living for herself, not for Jody or her grandmother or anyone else. And this freedom and independence brought her immense happiness. When Janie meets Tea Cake, she already knows that she has the rest of her life to do whatever she wants. This is one of the important things that was so crucial to the development and success of Janie and Tea Cake's relationship. Because she has the freedom to do whatever she likes, she doesn't care about what the rest of the town thinks of her or Tea Cake or their relationship. She loves him wholeheartedly and he loves her as well. And as she spends more time learning from Tea Cake and loving him, she grows more than she ever would have being married to Jody or even Logan. All of that leads to the successful marriage of Janie and Tea Cake.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed so much by being mistreated by her second husband. She was not allowed to be herself and was closed off from it. When she met Tea Cake she felt as if she could be herself. She just felt so free and comfortable. He treated her with such respect and this is what made their relationship so successful. Even though there was a big age difference, she still loved him. This led her to want to leave town and go marry Tea Cake.

Janie has gotten confidence in herself, her self esteem is better she feels like her self when she is with Tea cake. Tea cake compliments her and takes out to do things he also does things for her, like gong on drives fishing movies planting and even taking down a tree she never liked. Tea cake suprises her and makes her feel loved. The realationship between them worked out becuase Janie feels better about her self and men Tea Cake makes her feel comfortable the relationship is fun the personalities of both of them just go with each other. because janie has gotten comfortable she can be herself with Tea Cake and thats all he asks for.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed after being miss treated by joe. Janie has a new attitude she feels like she can do whatever she wants. After janie was mistreated by joe it made her become more independent and happier than.she has ever been. When tea cake comes into janies life things become more joyable. Tea cake actually listens to janie and actually pay attention to her. Janie now sees that she has to take control and not let anyone run over her. Janie has learned from.her past marragies that it wasnt love until now.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed through her mindset. Her mindset is no longer to please others but just to please her self. I believe that Janie found everything in Tea Cake that was missing from Jody, even though Tea Cake wasn't rich, he was friendly to her. Looking past all the materialistic things, that's what Janie needed. He treated her right, unlike like Jody. Janie finds the true definition of love through her relationship with Tea Cake. After coming out of that relationship with Jody, Janie realizes all that was broken and fixes it by eventually getting married to Tea Cake. -Adeola Akomolafe 1st
ReplyDeleteJanie has been a different person while being off with Tea Cake, she appears to be way more happier and she reveals her personality and who she really is out to the public. For example Janie has changed by not caring of her lovers wealth and age, also she has been able to express some of the things Joe would had never let her do. Really what made Janie love Tea Cake is that none of them expected to do what one of them wanted them to do. In other words Janie didn't want Tea Cake to act a certain way vise versa the same with Tea Cake. Yet while Janie still being around with Joe she was judged more and was forced to love someone she didn't have feelings for, but now of course that isn't the case.
ReplyDeleteThe changes Janie experiences after Joe dies really shape her relationship wise to know what she's looking for. When Janie first meets Joe, she decides in a very little amount of time that he was surely the man she was looking for, leading her to run away with him. This time for Tea Cake, she won't let him in easy. It takes time and the appearance of what would become a serious relationship. Janie learns how to fight back and not be misused from her past marriage. She looks out for her best interest and confronts Tea Cake of only using her, only to push him to be more romantic and show he is committed. Since Janie made Tea Cake really wait for her to come around, they came into the marriage knowing more about each other and what they were looking forward in a spouse, than Joe and Janie ever talked about. Janie made sure this was the man she was willing to live out the rest of her life with. She learned how to express her feelings and get to the point. This helped build up the relationship so they trusted each other so the relationship developed to one that Janie dreamed about back when she was 16.

ReplyDeleteJanie tries to avoid problems or dangers when she first meets Tea Cake. Although they have chemistry, he seems suspicious. He is much younger than she is and obviously not from the upper class. Tea Cake actually takes their relationship serious and eventually wins Janie’s heart. None of her previous husbands had. With her new husband, Janie does not mind returning to a poor rural life. In fact, she rather enjoys the freedom it brings to associate with everyone she wants and speak freely. Tea Cake even encourages her to try new things, like checkers and hunting. The secret to Janie and Tea Cake’s marriage is their communication with each other; they talk out their troubles and constantly reassure each other of their love.
ReplyDeleteJanie has more freedom now that her second husband has past. This sense of freedom leads Janie to become self-possesed and she begins to live life the way she wants to. Janie realizes that the key to living happily is to not allow any person influence her decisions. After meeting Tea Cake Janie begins to fall in love. Even though their relationship is frowned upon Janie doesn't care. The towns' voice is irrelevant to Janie now. Her love for him grows and they run off to get married.

Janie could've easily stayed in the mentality of not having anyone else, but decided to give it a chance when Tea Cake entered her life. She didn't want to trust what anyone said to her. She wanted to live by what she wanted and not what her Grandmother or Jody wanted. She knew that Tea Cake would be good for her because of how he treats Janie. He gives Janie everything he could possibly give her without having a dime inside his pockets, and that's what makes a succesful marriage between Tea Cake and Janie.
ReplyDeleteJanie changes a lot due to the fact that she would get mistreated by Joe. She also comes into realization that even if Tea Cake is poor relationships aren't about the money. Tea Cake makes her very happy so she decides to run off with him and Have a successful relationship. And Because of her past marriages Janie is a new independent woman .
ReplyDeleteJanie couldn't stayed the same as she was due to the life she had with Joe. She realizes that Tea Cake could possibly change her way of thinking .Even though she doesn't really trust anyone anymore she thinks it would be a great opportunity. Tea Cake seems to make her happy so she decides to have a second chance and run off with him and have a successful relationship. But due to her past experiences she is now more independent and respects herself more.

Janie has more experience on hoow marriage should be since she has had past ones. She is fully aware of how she should be treated, how to speak her mind, doesnt care about age and Tea Cake treats her the way she wants. She has many liberties unlike her previous one. She loves Tea Cake unconditionally and would do anything for him unlike her past husband. She sees and feels no flaws.
ReplyDeleteJanie changes by setting herself free to be independent and live alone like she's been hoping to do for the past seventeen years. She decides to have her hair hang down her waist, go into the store when she wants and control everything the way she wants to and pleases to do so. As she meets Tea Cake, her new husband. She feels like she can finally understand the true meaning of love, instead of being in a relationship for stability, and support. Her relationship is much more than successful, she found someone to love, and she became an independent woman. She doesn't need to be doing things to please her husband, he has her in good care even when he wasn't grown up to be a rich man. The change she made to put her grandmothers expectations to the side, and give this non wealthy man a chance built the relationship of Janie and Tea Cake because he has her under a strong stability to support her even when he isn't rich.
ReplyDeleteAfter Joe's death, Janie began to change into a better positive person. She loved the liberty she now has as she is not being controlled by Joe. She enjoyed talking to other people and especially after Tea Cake is introduced and they began to spend time and began to feel for each other. The freedom that Janie has gained makes her happier. She learns that she want to live in a happy relationship no matter what her new parte's wealth is.
ReplyDeleteSince Jody passed away, Janie seemed to become more liberal and begins to feel more like she was her own self rather than someone who was being controlled and told to be something more. She seems to have become cautious about Tea Cake after he helped her lock up, but felt that in that instant it was gone. She felt like she had known him her life, but still felt very doubtful about him. Before she decided what she felt for Tea Cake Janie thought, " Fact is, she decided to treat him so cold if her ever did foot the place that he'd be sure not to come hanging around there again." (pg.114) But as time passed and the more she spend with him and learned more about him ,she realized that she was able to let herself love him in a way that she never had before, even if there was an age gap and he was poor.
ReplyDeleteJanie is no longer ashamed of loving the younger, poorer boy. Shes grown out of caring what others think about her relationship and has decided to be free from the burden of society. Because she chose this path it has allowed her to be completely love how and who she wants. Not only free from the world but free from joe she has become able to take control and make the best out of the new relationship.
ReplyDeleteAfter Joe passes away Jannie goes through 6 months of sadness. When those 6 months ended Janie realizes that she needs to move on and be happy, not to be brought down by any many anymore. When she meets Tea Cake, a poor younger man who is very attracted to her, she feels more happy. Janie begins to realize that Nanny raised her to look for a man of wealth when Janie only wanted someone that would actually treat her right. Tea Cake treats Janie with a lot of respect, even since the first day they met when he asked her to play chess. Because of that fact that Tea Cake treats Janie with respect it makes her stand up for him when people say that she deserves better. She tells the people that she doesn't want Tea Cake to be compared to Joe. Janie knows also that Tea Cake wants her for her and not just because she is wealthy. Their relationship is very strong because Tea Cake helps Janie come over the fact that not all men want her for wealth and let her know what it feels like to be treated with respect.
ReplyDeleteJanie has changed into a whole different woman. Her self-esteem has gone up and she has matured. She has learned from her past relationship with Joe and she know what she wants. At first she is concerned about the age difference between her and Tea Cake, but she soon forgets about it once she realizes how good he is to her. Tea Cake abides by her rules and waits for Janie until she is ready to be in another relationship. Janie is madly in love with Tea Cake and accepts him for being poor and very well educated, and Tea Cake makes Janie very independent which makes their marriage very successful.

Janie has changed by finding out who she really is. Janie could do what she wants and doesn't care what everyone else thinks. Tea Cake comes along and shows her something she never had before, fun. Janie finally begins to enjoy herself and have a great time through Tea Cake and she stops caring what the town thinks because she's happy. Janie became wiser after Joe's death she knows how to keep her money to herself. Her relationship with Tea Cake is successful because Janie does not let Tea Cake take advantage of her.

Janie has changed by becoming an independent woman since Joe past away. She has been able to do things and say things that she couldn't when Joe was still alive, because Joe always told Janie that Mrs.Mayor's didn't do this and that. Tea Cake comes into the picture and enjoys Janie's company and thoughts. He wants to experience life with Janie rather than two different people. Tea Cake and Janie's realationship is successful due to the excitement in the realationship and all the new things that Janie is learning about along side Tea Cake as couple. They are a whole together as Tea Cake explains, " From now on, you gointuh eat whutever mah money can buy yuh and wear de same. When Ah ain't got nothin' you don't git nothin'." Tea Cake just cares about having Janie and not her abundance of money. If he is broke they're both going to be broke together as one.
ReplyDeleteJanie under goes alot changes of mood and personality. After the passing of Joe she grieves for about 6 months and soon moves on to happiness when she finds poor man who is strongly attracted to her named Tea cake. She was raised to be attracted to wealthy men yet tea cake isnt but she feels so happy around him she doesnt care that he's poor. They soon develop a very strong relationship with one another. -Nathan Aguilar
DeleteJanie changed ever since her last merriage with joe. It made her more of an independent strong woman. This change leads to a successful relationship with Tea Cake because she really does love him and she even works with him so they can spend the whole day together. She got tired of joe always mistreating her and he only had money but that's not all she needed. She wanted to feel loved. When she found tea cake, even though he wasn't as wealthy, he was really sweet with her and nice and that is all she wanted and now she lives happy by his side.
ReplyDeleteAfter Joe’s death, Janie changes by no longer allowing others to mistreat her. She begins to think more for herself and becomes her own person. Janie is maturing and beginning to understand that she needs to do what will make her happy. She decides that she will no longer be squared into living like the way she did in the past. Tea Cake understands Janie’s changes and is supportive toward the situation. Unlike Joe, Tea Cake respects Janie, causing her to open up and be herself.
ReplyDeleteJanie went through a lot of changes in moods and personal things. Becasue Joe had passed, she was sad and went through many mood changes. Then her emotions started to change because she met a new guy. He was a poor man. She knows that she prefers wealthy men but this guy was different. She was very happy with this guy. He treated her so good and made her feel loved.
ReplyDeleteJanie has gone through two marriages now. Being put into a forced marriage with Logan Killicks, Janie learns that forcing herself to love someone she has no interest in is not how she wants to live. And after running away with Joe, she learns that even though she'd prefer settling for wealth, power, and the nice things he said, he didn't live up to his word. She matures through the chapters and when she meets Tea Cake, she knows immediately that he is what she's wanted. She's comfortable with him and she opens up to him, making their connection strong and real.
